westfrk_mayhews_lodge2.jpg There are bits and pieces of the Mayhews Lodge near the start the of the West Fork Oak Canyon trail. The story says there were three cabins, the oldest built by "Bear" Howard in 1870s. The final proprietors of the lodge were "Lefty" and Betty Mayhews Wohlschlegel. In the 1940s, the Wohlschlegel maintained a Lodge known for it "homely atmosphere and great meals which included local trout and fruit from the orchards." In 1976 most of the Lodge burnt to the ground. Just what the purpose of this building was is unknown, perhaps a storage shed or chicken coop, but it is the most complete structure we found from the old Mayhews Lodge.
