westfrk_0010.jpg The moderately-easy, 3.4 mile one way, West Fork Oak Creek Trail begins in a former fruit orchard (apple I think) under towering cliffs of Coconino sandstone in the Schneby Hill formation. Formed by coastal sand dune blown to the area some 270 million years ago, the canyon walls are "stained" by "desert vanish". Just around the bend are the ruins of the Mayhew's Lodge.
