DIRECTIONS:
In Cape Carteret, NC, at intersection of State Rts. 24 and 58, 
take Rt. 58 north 0.7 miles to VFW Rd.  Turn left (at the Wildlife 
Viewing Area sign) onto VFW Rd. and go 0.4 miles to campground sign.  
Turn left at sign onto an unpaved paved road and go 0.6 miles to 
another campground sign.  Turn left into campground.

GENERAL COMMENTS:
The elevation is 3 ft.

The campground, located near White Oak River and at the edge of 
a salt marsh, is a single loop with a connecting crossover road.  
Loblolly pine and Live oaks are widely scattered throughout.  It 
is partially surrounded by a dense vegetation of marsh woodland.  
A level grass understory provides ample space for tents and 
field games.  During the summer be prepared for some mosquitoes, 
ticks, and chiggers.  The campground is 4 miles from some 
pleasant, publicly accessible Atlantic Ocean beaches.  It is also 
within 3 miles of the Intracoastal Waterway and is an exceptional 
base camp for canoeing.  Each camp site has a lantern pole.  All in 
all, this is a great campground for bird watching, hiking, fishing, 
ocean beaches, canoeing, shopping, and restaurants - lots to see 
and do or just relax.

Comments:
The boat ramp, for flat bottom boats, is 0.1 miles south of 
campground entrance.  It provides access to the Intracoastal 
Waterway via White Oak River.

HIKING
Cedar Point Tideland Trail (interpretive - foot) - one loop is 
1.3 miles and the other is (0.6 miles, wheelchair friendly)
Cedar Point Tideland Paddle Trail (loop, canoe) - 2 miles
     Provides access to Intracoastal Waterway and  a network of 
     Carteret County paddle trails.

FISHING   
Fish available in the White Oak River are the Stripped Mullet,
Pumpkinseed, Chain Pickerel, Largemouth Bass, Flounder, Redbreast
Sunfish and Gars.

CAMPGROUND NAME: Flanners Beach VISIT DATE: 4/14/96 UPDATE DATE: 8/19/2020 STATE: North Carolina REGION: Southern RANGER DISTRICT: Croatan NEAREST CITY/TOWN: Havelock RESERVATIONS: 1-877-444-6777 or make on-line reservation DIRECTIONS: From Havelock, NC, take US Rt. 70 north 3.2 miles to Neuse River Recreation Area sign (Flanners Beach Rd./State Rt. 1107). Turn right after sign onto Flanners Beach Rd. and go 1.6 miles to campground. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 20 ft. The campground, formerly called Neuse River campground, is a single loop in a stand of mature Loblolly pines and various hardwoods next to the Neuse River. Some camp site have a view of the River and the far shoreline. The sites tend to be close together which makes it nice for group or family gatherings. The campground is far enough away from Cherry Point US Naval Reservation and US Rt. 70 making noise from either of these two places minimal. This is a quiet campground with heavy understory providing good privacy for some camp sites. Although on the Neuse River, except for swimming, the wide range of water sports offered by the river must be accessed elsewhere - see Water Sports comments. It is sandy and picturesque. Numerous water sports are available on the river, but not accessible from the campground. The nearest boat ramp is Siddie Fields east of campground on US Rt. 70. HIKING Flanners Beach Trail (foot & mountain bike) - 3 miles. One mile of trail is wheelchair friendly.
