From Troy, MT, take US Rt. 2 east 1.6 miles to State Rt. 56. 
Turn right onto Rt. 56 and go 18.2 miles to Ross Creek Cedars
sign (Forest Rt. 398).  Turn right onto Rt. 398 and go 1.7 miles
to campground sign.  Turn right into campground.

GENERAL COMMENTS:
The elevation is 2,200 ft.

The campground is composed of two loops, upper and lower.  The
sites are tucked in among cedar and Hemlock.  The lower
loop has several short, double-wide sites with some sites
overlooking Bull Lake.  The upper loop is less densely wooded and
has an open feel to it.  A good day trip is Ross Creek Cedar
Grove Scenic Area a 0.9 mile hike through Western Red
Cedars.  Some of the cedars are 8 ft. in diameter and over 175
ft. tall.

CAMPGROUND NAME: Big Therriault Lake VISIT DATE: 07/20/1998 UPDATE DATE: 2/21/2017 STATE: Montana REGION: Northern RANGER DISTRICT: Rexford - Fortine NEAREST CITY/TOWN: Eureka RESERVATIONS: No DIRECTIONS: From Eureka, MT, take US Rt. 93 south 7.7 miles to Ten Lakes sign and Grave Crk Rd. Turn left onto Grave Crk Rd. and go 14.3 miles to intersection of Forest Rts. 319 and 114. Continue straight onto Rt. 319 for 13.9 miles to where Forest Rt. 319 intersects with Forest Rts. 7116 and 7085. Continue straight onto Rt. 7116 and go 0.4 miles to campground sign. Turn right at sign into campground. NOTE: Once off US Rt. 93, about two-thirds of remaining distance is on dirt roads. These roads vary from two-lane to single-lane. Be sure gas tank is full, there is a good spare with changing tools and a full pantry. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 5,480 ft. The campground is pack it in, pack it out and located adjacent to Big Therriault Lake in a beautiful setting of thick Sub-Alpine and Douglas firs. The understory is heavy with shrubs, some wildflowers, young pine and other vegetation. This makes for nice seclusion between sites. Hiking the Big Therriault Loop Trail around the lake is a must - it is gorgeous. Big Therriault Lake is so pristine, it's like looking through a cut glass window. Firewood is available from the host. This campground represents another one of those "best kept secrets." Of special interest is the many interpretive signs along Forest Rt. 319 explaining the sights and geology along the way. Turn right at sign into campground. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 2,200 ft. The campground is located at junction of Bull River and Cabinet Gorge Reservoir with some sites overlooking the river. It is composed of three loops - Upper, A and B. There are a wide variety of trees some of which are cedar and Douglas fir. The campground is convenient to State Rt. 200. Canoe rentals are available at Cabinet Gorge Campground, a nearby private campground. There are two sets of metal stair providing access to water. A convenient day trip is a tour at the Noxon Rapid Dam. Firewood is provided - no fee. CAMPGROUND NAME: Howard Lake VISIT DATE: 07/16/1998 UPDATE DATE: 2/21/2017 STATE: Montana REGION: Northern RANGER DISTRICT: Libby NEAREST CITY/TOWN: Libby RESERVATIONS: No DIRECTIONS: From Libby, MT, take US Rt. 2 east 23.9 miles to West Fisher Cr/Forest Rt. 231 sign. Turn right at sign onto narrow dirt road and go 15.2 miles to Howard Lake campground sign - at "T" intersection. Turn left at intersection and go 1 mile to campground. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 4,000 ft. The campground is adjacent to Howard Lake with some sites overlooking the lake. There is one walk-in tent site located 0.5 miles east of campground. The campground is heavily wooded with cedar, fir and spruce. This is very attractive campground located near the "Libby Creek Gold Panning" area where recreational panning is permitted. One of the sites may be occupied by a host. CAMPGROUND NAME: McGillivray VISIT DATE: 07/18/1998 UPDATE DATE: 2/21/2017 STATE: Montana REGION: Northern RANGER DISTRICT: Libby NEAREST CITY/TOWN: Libby RESERVATIONS: No DIRECTIONS: In Libby, MT, take State Rt. 37 north 15 miles to McGillivray Recreation Area sign (Forest Rt. 228). Turn left at sign onto Rt. 228 and go 10.2 miles to campground sign. Turn right at sign and go 0.5 miles to the campground. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 2,500 ft. The campground is located on Koocanusa (koo-ca-nusa) Reservoir, but no sites actually have a view of the reservoir. The reservoir is also referred to as a lake. The campground is heavily wooded in mixed woods with a thick understory. Sites are spacious and secluded. A fish cleaning station is provided at the boat ramp. Two of the campsites will accommodate small groups (contact the Libby Ranger District for more information). There is a seperate cluster of campsite only for tent campers and designed for bicyclists. Libby Dam is nearby where tours are given. Also, consider driving around the lake (100-mile loop) as a day trip for some scenic vistas, waterfall trails, rock climbers and wildlife viewing. Turn right at sign and go 0.2 miles to campground. An alternate route is take US Rt. 2 west from Kalispell, MT for 32 miles to the campground. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 3,900 ft. The campground is located at the west end of McGregor Lake among very young pines. Although campground is adjacent to lake, only one site has view of the lake. Huckleberry picking available nearby. And if into this kind of thing, skydiving is also nearby. This attractive campground, on a scenic lake, is convenient to State Rt. 93. There is a gas station with limited groceries 3.4 miles north of campground on US Rt. 93. Turn left at sign, onto gravel roadway, and go 0.4 miles to stop sign and campground sign. Continue straight for 0.1 miles to campground entrance on left. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 2,200 ft. The campground is a single loop with sites well separated and secluded. It is wooded with young pine that provide ample shade for most of the sites. Noxon Rapid Reservoir and boat ramp are adjacent to the campground. The Noxon Rapids Dam tour is a convenient day trip from the campground. Firewood is provided. Turn right onto Rt. 508 and go 26.7 miles to campground sign. Turn right into campground. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 3,000 ft. The campground is adjacent to Yaak River and Pete Creek. It is wooded with Western Larch, Sub-Alpine fir, cedar, Hemlock and spruce; there is one Ponderosa in the campground The campground is very attractive with mostly secluded sites. All tent sites are walk-in. Firewood is available for a fee. Turn left onto Rt. 37 and go 5.5 miles to campground sign. Turn right at sign and take immediate right after Recreation Area sign. Go 0.3 miles to trailer symbol sign and turn right into campground. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 2,500 ft. The campground is composed of two loops - A and B. It is located in heavy mixed pines adjacent to the Koocanusa Reservoir. There are deep sinks in front of each bathhouse. Minimal understory provides some privacy between sites. Several informal paths lead to the beach and boat ramp. Libby Dam is nearby where tours are given. Also, consider driving around the reservoir (100-mile loop) as a day trip for some scenic vistas, waterfall trails, and views of rock climbers and wildlife. Osprey can often be seen fishing just below the Dam around sunset. Turn right and go 24 miles to campground sign. Turn right into campground. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 3,000 ft. The campground, along the shore of the Yaak River, is attractive and heavily wooded with Western Larch and Sub-Alpine fir. The sites are secluded from one another by an understory of tall grass, shrubs and young pine. Moose sightings are possible, usually early in the morning. Firewood is available for a fee. Turn left into campground on east side of Yaak River or left on west side of Yaak River. Sign identifying campground is not visible from Rt. 2. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 1,800 ft. The campground, located immediately off US Rt. 2, is split by the Yaak River. The Kootenai River also runs by the campground with some sites overlooking one or the other river. It is heavily wooded with Western Larch and some cedar. There are some secluded sites separated by tall grass, shrubs and young pines. Firewood is available for a fee.
