16summit_prairie.jpg Summit Prairie, between Still Creek and Trillium Lake campgrounds, was a welcome sight to the emigrants on the Oregon Trail. Here, those tired travelers could rest for a while, repair their wagons, and, probably more importantly, give their livestock a chance to regain some strength after the stress and strain of the many miles traveled. The last major challenge, called Laurel Hill, on the Oregon trail awaited but after the time spent at Summit Prairie this chute out of the mountains didn't seem so frighting or impossible.
