Nebraska National Forest - More then an eye full

Nebraska National Forest is a most unusual place. Its trees are hand-planted in small pockets tucked in among grass-covered rolling knolls. It is a beautiful place and probably one of the best kept secrets in the whole Forest Service. Here, hikers and equestrians wander over miles and miles of wildflower and grass-covered land. Anglers go in quest of that "big one" in the Loup River. Children can splash to their hearts content in the Forest Service's only swimming pool or float down the gentle Loup River. The Nebraska National Forest really isn't on the way to anywhere but it is worth a visit the next time you are traveling Interstate 80 in Nebraska. From Grand Island take State Route 2 northwest about 130 miles or from North Platte go north on US Route 83 some 65 miles to Thedford were you turn east onto Route 2 and go about 15 miles. If you haven't discovered Nebraska National Forest here are some reasons to do so.
