04devils_golf_course.jpg A close look at a gnarled crystalline salt dome. The lumpy salt spirals are what is left of Death Valley's last significant lake called Lake Manly. The whole area is referred to as a "salt flat" but it is actually a flat of many salts. There is some borax but the most plentiful salt is NaCl, also known as table salt. You can see the salt in those white crystals on the dome.
