From Cass Lake, MN, take US Rt. 2 east 3.7 miles to Norway Beach Recreation 
Area sign.  Turn left and go 0.2 miles to campground sign.  Turn left and go 0.2 
miles to another [small] campground sign.  Turn left and go 0.2 miles to 
campground.

GENERAL COMMENTS:
The elevation is 1,300 ft.

The campground, one of four in the Norway Beach Recreation Area, has a 
single loop on the southern shore of Cass Lake.  It offers a well-rounded 
family oriented camping experience.  Check fee board for the schedule of 
activities offered such as interpretive programs and special events.  Various 
pine trees, spruce, oak and maple provide ample shade.  Several campsites 
are located on lake shore, which also provides for mooring boats.  These 
campsites fill up fast.

The campground's boat ramp provides access to the interesting Star Island.  
Located in the middle of Cass Lake, Star Island is one of the forest's unique 
features.  Six miles of trails wind around the island and the 199-acre Lake 
Windigo.  Once advertised as a "curative place," Star Island receives 
accolades from its visitors.

A must visit is the Norway Beach Visitor Center.  This building, with its 
magnificent fireplace, is a monument to the talents and craftsmanship of 
Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) enrollees.  Programs and displays in 
the Visitor Center depict Dakota and Ojibwe heritage, CCC contributions, 
and the area's flora and fauna.

Turn left onto Rt. 2171 and go 1 mile to campground sign. Turn left into campground. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 1,300 ft. The campground, in a stand of old growth red pine, has three loops on the southern shore of Cass Lake with some sites overlooking the Lake. With electric hookups at each campsite, it is one of four campgrounds in the Norway Beach Recreation Area. The campground offers a well-rounded family oriented camping experience. Check fee board for schedule of activities offered in the Norway Beach Recreation Area such as interpretive programs and special events. Turn right onto Rt. 45 and go 5.2 miles to campground sign (Forest Rt. 2181). Turn left onto Rt. 2181 and go 1.5 miles to another campground sign (Forest Rt. 3758). Turn right onto Rt. 3758 and go 1.4 miles to campground. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 1,200 ft. The campground is composed of a bisected single loop on the western shore of Clubhouse Lake. Sites are in a stand of 200- year old Red and White pine. With excellent water quality, fishing and swimming are popular activities. Another feature is the Rice River Canoe Tour which begins at the nearby headwater of the Bigfork River at Clubhouse Lake. The campground is a peaceful treat. Turn right onto Rt. 46 and go 20.8 miles to 3rd River Landing sign (Forest Rt. 2171/Third River Rd.). Turn left at sign onto Rt. 2171 (dirt) and go 1.1 miles to campground on right. GENERAL COMMENTS The elevation is 1,350 ft. The campground, a bisected single loop and located in the Cut Foot Experimental Forest, winds through a mature stand of Red pine. It is primarily an equestrian camp jointly developed by the Forest Service and Minnesota Horse Council. Non-equestrian campers are welcome. Each site has a picket line. Manure pits are scattered throughout the campground. There is also a large gathering area with council ring. Oak, birch and other small deciduous trees comprise the middlestory and provide excellent privacy between campsites. Farley Lookout Tower is a one-half mile walk from the campground. Although there is no access to the tower, views from the location are excellent. The campground and trail system are considered by some to be the most scenic in the state. Gas, groceries, fishing tackle and hardware are available 4.4 miles north State Rt. 46 in Squaw Lake, MN. This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques. Turn right onto Rt. 46 and go 19.1 miles to Eagle Nest Rd. Turn left onto Eagle Nest Rd. (dirt and gravel) and go 3.5 miles to campground. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 1,43 0ft. The campground, composed of two loops (North Deer Lake and South Deer Lake), is separated by Biasuwah Creek on the west shore of Big Cut Foot Sioux Lake. Some sites in south loop overlook the lake while many sites in north loop are on shoreline. A dense stand of White and Red pines provide ample shade for most sites. A boat ramp is centrally located between the loops and provides lake access via Biauswah Creek The campground is a short distance from Lake Winnibigoshish and many other lakes. The Cut Foot Sioux Area with its non-motorized trails and good loon, osprey and bald eagle viewing opportunities, is also nearby. A thick middlestory provides good privacy between campsites. This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques. Turn right onto Rt. 46 and go 19.1 miles to Eagle Nest Rd. Turn left onto Eagle Nest Rd. (dirt and gravel) and go 2.5 miles to campground on left. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 1,380 ft. This small campground is a single spur with no turn-around that stretches along the east side of Seeyle Point beside the Big Cut Foot Sioux Lake. Some campsites are adjacent to the lake. Red pine and birch provide ample shade. A thick middlestory gives good privacy between campsites. The 22-mile Cut Foot Sioux National Recreation Trail runs past the campground and up along Seelye Point. The campground is a short distance from Lake Winnibigoshish and many other lakes. The Cut Foot Sioux Area, with its non-motorized trails and good loon, osprey and bald eagle viewing opportunities, is also nearby. Turn left onto Rt. 39 and go north 5.4 miles to campground sign (Forest Rt. 2176). Turn right onto Rt. 2176 and go 0.7 miles to campground. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 1,300 ft. The campground, located where the Mississippi River and Cass Lake meet, is a single loop on the northeast shore of Cass Lake with manicured sites shaded by mature oak, spruce and pine. Known for its canoe access to the Mississippi River, this sweet little campground offers every campsite a view of the lake. The Knutson Dam was built by the Corps of Engineers and transferred to the Forest Service in 1926. Wildlife viewing is one of the highlightsof this campground. Turn right onto Rt. 2104 and go north 0.4 miles to "left arrow." Turn left into campground. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 1,040 ft. The campground is a secluded, single loop campground on the eastern shore of Mabel Lake with a beautiful, sandy beach. Some sites overlook the lake. There is a foot trail from the campground to the boat ramp and swim beach. The surrounding forest is abundant with wildlife and the nearby Boy River is an excellent river to paddle and view eagles, osprey and waterfowl. This picturesque campground is a single loop in a stand of Red pines and a mixture of young hardwoods. The understory is manicured grass and the dense middlestory provides excellent privacy between campsites. Located on a peninsula surrounded by the Little Cut Foot Sioux Lake, Big Cut Foot Sioux Lake, and First River, the camp sites are either adjacent to water or have a view of water. The campground is a short distance from Lake Winnibigoshish and many other lakes. The Cut Foot Sioux Area with its non-motorized trails and good loon, osprey and bald eagle viewing opportunities, is also nearby. This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques. An interesting day trip from the campground is to the historic Camp Rabideau. One of three remaining Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camps in the United States, Camp Rabideau was established in 1935. The Camp had been home to first Company 3749 of Bennett Springs, Missouri then Company 708 of Bena, Minnesota. In 1945, the camp was leased to the University of Illinois for engineering and forestry students. By 1973, the University's lease expired and the Camp reverted to the Forest Service. A one-mile interpretive trail highlights the buildings and history of the Camp. Guided tours are available during the summer. Turn right onto Rt. 46 and go 19.1 miles to Eagle Nest Rd. Turn left onto Eagle Nest Rd. (dirt and gravel) and go 3 miles to campground sign on left. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 1,380 ft. The campground stretches along the west shore of Cut Foot Sioux Lake in Red pine and White birch. The campground offers probably the best wildlife viewing opportunities in the Forest. Whitetail deer, porcupines, raccoons, eagles and osprey are frequent visitors to the campground. Although many campsites are near the lake's shore, dense forest blocks a lake view. Heavy middlestory provides good privacy between campsites. Turn right onto Rt. 46 and go 15.4 miles to County Rt. 148 (Williams Narrows Rd.). Turn left onto Rt. 148 (dirt) and go 1.8 miles to campground on left. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 1,320 ft. The campground, bound by private homes and the Williams Narrows Resort, has two small loops along the east shore of Cut Foot Sioux Lake. Birch, oak, and pine trees provide shade. A few campsites have a view of the lake. This is a quiet campground with the campsites fairly close together providing only fair privacy. It is a short distance from Lake Winnibigoshish and many other lakes. The Cut Foot Sioux Area, with its non-motorized trails and good loon, osprey and Bald eagle viewing opportunities, is nearby. This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques. Turn left onto Rt. 39 and go 2.3 miles to campground sign (County Rt. 91/Forest Rt. 2171). Turn right onto Rt. 91/Rt. 2171 and go 1.5 miles to another campground sign. Turn left (no route number) and go 5.8 miles to still another campground sign (Forest Rt. 2168). Turn right onto Rt. 2168 and go 3.8 miles to campground. GENERAL COMMENTS: The elevation is 1,300 ft. The campground stretches along the southern end of Lake Winnibigoshish (Winnie) in a lush stand of Red and White pine. A popular activity for visitors is a stroll along the shoreline and looking for bald eagles. Dense middlestory provides excellent privacy. Some campsites overlook the lake. This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques.
