{"id":974,"date":"2019-02-18T05:26:42","date_gmt":"2019-02-18T12:26:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/forestcamping.com\/blog\/?p=974"},"modified":"2019-02-01T14:51:03","modified_gmt":"2019-02-01T21:51:03","slug":"essential-equipment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.forestcamping.com\/dow\/suzi\/essential-equipment\/","title":{"rendered":"Essential equipment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are some items I consider to be essential equipment when camping.\u00a0 Things like:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a fan (the old-fashion wave-by-hand as well as electric fans),<\/li>\n<li>a stick of Afterbite (Fred and I must have be the main course for a wide variety of bugs), and<\/li>\n<li>a wide brim hat, to name just three.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But on the top of my \u201cMust Take\u201d list is a \u201cPlain Jane\u201d carabiner.\u00a0 You know, one of those clips used by mountain and rock climbers.\u00a0 Mine is not as heavy duty as the ones they use.\u00a0 I got mine in Walmart or a Dick\u2019s Sporting Goods Store, can&#8217;t remember exactly which place.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.forestcamping.com\/dow\/suzi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/09-15-10-carabiner.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-975 size-medium\" title=\"Ralf and keys are safe\" src=\"http:\/\/www.forestcamping.com\/dow\/suzi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/09-15-10-carabiner-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Carabiner for Ralf's leash &amp; car keys\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As you can see in this photo, I have the keys to my vehicles on one carabiner and clip them to my belt loop when not in use. The pink is a section of Ralf&#8217;s leash which is also attached to the carabiner.\u00a0 Its\u00a0perfect keeping Ralf with his leash attached to me when we are walking a campground and I need my hands for things like picture taking and data recording.<\/p>\n<p>If I take a purse into a grocery store, the carabiner is perfect for keeping my purse safe and secure in the shopping cart.\u00a0 I just weave the hand straps through part of the cart and clip them together.\u00a0 No grab and run unless you take the whole cart.<\/p>\n<p>A small carabiner can hold a variety and quantity of hair bands.<\/p>\n<p>A large carabiner works well to help carry several groceries bags from the store to the car.\u00a0 I just slip the hole provided for my hand through the carabiner and now I have several bags all collected and held together.<\/p>\n<p>That large carabiner can also be a defensive weapon &#8211; metal knuckles.\u00a0 I\u2019ve never used them as such but it is nice to know.<\/p>\n<p>Frankly, I don&#8217;t go much of anywhere without a carabiner, it&#8217;s that important to me.<\/p>\n<div class=\"linkwithin_hook\" id=\"https:\/\/www.forestcamping.com\/dow\/suzi\/essential-equipment\/\"><\/div><script>\n<!-- \/\/LinkWithinCodeStart\nvar linkwithin_site_id = 237346;\nvar linkwithin_div_class = \"linkwithin_hook\";\n\/\/LinkWithinCodeEnd -->\n<\/script>\n<script src=\"http:\/\/www.linkwithin.com\/widget.js\"><\/script>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.linkwithin.com\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.linkwithin.com\/pixel.png\" alt=\"Related Posts with Thumbnails\" style=\"border: 0\" \/><\/a>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are some items I consider to be essential equipment when camping.\u00a0 Things like: a fan (the old-fashion wave-by-hand as well as electric fans), a stick of Afterbite (Fred and I must have be the main course for a wide variety of bugs), and a wide brim hat, to name just three.
