This Crisp is a perfect dessert after a day of hiking, swimming, and doingther\u00a0 assorted camping related activities.\u00a0 Loaded with fruit, this Crisp is what we need for dessert to finish off our dinner.\u00a0 For my family, a Crisp is the\u00a0 perfect ending to any day. \u00a0At home we might add a scoop of ice cream but out in a national forest, a big soup spoon is all we need.<\/p>\n

Camper’s Crisp<\/h1>\n

Melt a pad of butter or margarine in a skillet. \u00a0Add prepared fresh fruit (I use cherries, halved and pitted but sliced peeled apple works well, too) to skillet. \u00a0If you have, and want, sprinkle some sugar and stir to mix. \u00a0Cook until fruit is tender. \u00a0Sprinkle cookie crumbs over the crisp and serve hot<\/p>\n

Although this recipe uses fresh fruit, dried works also.\u00a0 You will need to re-hydrate by putting the fruit in the skillet, almost cover with water and bring to a boil.\u00a0 Move to a cooler part of the campfire and allow to simmer until fruit is plumb and tender.\u00a0 Follow the above recipe.\u00a0 It is likely you will not need to add any or as much sugar.<\/p>\n

FYI, dried blueberries are a good choice after a day on a challenging trail.\u00a0\u00a0Dried blueberries pack a nutritional punch. They are low in sodium and in calories, offering 127 calories per one-quarter cup, and they contain no cholesterol.\u00a0\u00a0Blueberries are known for their high concentration of antioxidants, but studies suggest blueberries may be the most powerful. Antioxidants protect the body from free radicals, or cells that have the potential to become dangerous and degenerative.<\/p>\n
