Dixie is our little pink mascot and goes everywhere with us. \u00a0This year that includes a pass through Yosemite National Forest<\/a> in California. \u00a0We drove through Yosemite so we could get to Stanislaus National Forest<\/a>‘s Rt 108 corridor (they have one new and a renovated campgrounds) and research we needed to do.<\/p>\n

You might not know it, if you want to avoid Yosemite by using Rt 108 off US Rt. 395, you can’t in a recreational vehicle. \u00a0The grade on the eastern most portion of Rt. 108 is outrageous – something like 26%! \u00a0Your option is State Rt. 120 which going right to the Park’s east entrance. \u00a0Not a bad thing except its a long “pull” to get there and once in the Park, the roadway gets very narrow and the crowds thick. \u00a0In other words, it is not a relaxing experience.<\/p>\n

By the time we got to Siesta Lake on the west side of the Park, everyone was ready to take a break and stretch their legs. \u00a0Fred found a pull-out wide enough for our motorhome and we stopped. \u00a0Ralf immediately went about “watering” every vertical object while Dixie tried “bouldering” on the big rocks next to the pull-out.<\/p>\n

We were happy to leave the crowds and congestion of Yosemite NP behind for the quiet, peace and beauty of Stanislaus NF and Black Oak campground (its new so look for our report on ForestCamping.com in the near future).<\/p>\n
