A batch of instant pudding, any flavor, has always been a family favorite around our campsite. \u00a0It has always been made by the children. You see, I have long felt, the cook is on vacation, too, so others need to pitch-in. \u00a0This pudding is easy enough Dad, as well as toddlers, can make.\u00a0 And the variations are many.<\/p>\n

Let the children get creative with the final product.\u00a0 The purest will probably be happy with varying the cookies crumbs.\u00a0 Another child will want to make a batch of chocolate and other batch of vanilla\u00a0 and layer the\u00a0 pudding in a cup, alternating flavors.\u00a0 My personal favorite is any flavor topped with berries picked during a hike that day.<\/p>\n

Camper style vanilla pudding recipe<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Put 2 cups of milk (or substitute powdered milk and water – see below) and a box of instant vanilla pudding mix in a clean mayonnaise jar. Screw cap on and have the child shake until it begins to thicken. Then pour into paper cup or jelly jars and top with whatever is handy – fresh picked berries, or cookie crumbs, powdered chocolate drink, go crazy – and enjoy. \u00a0 Eat right way or store in ice chest until needed. Try other flavors, too.<\/p>\n

Lessons learned on many camping trips<\/h2>\n

Afraid you might not have enough milk for the whole camping trip? Substitute 2\/3 cup of powdered milk and two cups water for the 2 cups of milk as called for on the package.<\/p>\n

An alternative is to put cookies in the bottom your container and then pour in some pudding and top with fruit. \u00a0Note: cookies will get softer as it sits so you might want to do this alternative very close to when you serve it.<\/p>\n

If the pudding doesn\u2019t thicken up properly, congratulation you have invented pudding soup \ud83d\ude42 which is almost as good as vanilla ice cream soup.<\/p>\n
