Reading through old post and came across this one from our early days as full-time campers.\u00a0 Our motorhome was just a year or so old and we hadn’t had any real problems until the fateful Saturday.\u00a0 BTW, the hot water heater has worked faithfully since we installed that new\u00a0 thermal couple.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s my weekend:\u00a0 As I was putting Saturday\u2019s dinner on the table, Fred, who was washing his hands, yelled, \u201cWhere\u2019s the hot water!?!?!?\u201d<\/p>\n

I thought, \u201cWait a minute while I check my pockets.\u201d but instead checked the kitchen faucet.\u00a0 Fred was right, the hot water was missing.\u00a0 Even full bore the hot water was only lukewarm!<\/p>\n

Fred, my resident handyman and worker of amazing feats, went out to check the hot water heater.\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cThe pilot light is out,\u201d he announced, \u201cand I can\u2019t get it to re-light.\u201d<\/p>\n

Oh well, Fred does have his limits but I knew he\u2019d come up with a solution.\u00a0 And he did.\u00a0 He called a plumber – on a Saturday at dinner time.\u00a0 They weren\u2019t enthusiastic.\u00a0 In fact, they seemed pretty discouraging.\u00a0 The second one diagnosed they problem over the phone – the thermal couple was shot.\u00a0 Seems this is a common occurrence in our unit.\u00a0 The part would have to be ordered – ON MONDAY!\u00a0\u00a0 Damn Sam!!!\u00a0 Sunday Monday and the manufacturer confirmed the diagnoses and, since our unit was still under warranty, promised to the placement out on Monday.\u00a0 We should get it Tuesday.\u00a0 So I have three more days with no hot water – UGH!<\/p>\n

Okay, there are no problems just challenges to overcome.\u00a0 We have guests for Sunday brunch and then to watch the USA vs Canada Hockey game but all the food is prepared and ready.\u00a0 I had planned on washing my hair before our guest arrive but that while have to wait.<\/p>\n

BTW, Sunday morning, we woke to about half-inch of snow on the ground and slush falling from the sky all day.\u00a0 The water from our faucet was only slightly above freezing.<\/p>\n

Kettles and pots to the stove top and at the ready!\u00a0 One soup pot and tea kettle make enough boiling water for a quick bath in the tub (using the three-step camping technique of getting damp, soaping down, and rinsing).\u00a0 Dirty dishes need two soup pots (one to wash and separate one to rinse).\u00a0 I\u2019m working on a plan for washing my hair.\u00a0 And we are going with hand-cleaner stuff like champs.\u00a0 Year of camping experience is helping us meet the challenge and appreciate all the more our modern conveniences.<\/p>\n

We are *so* looking forward to that part arriving tomorrow!<\/p>\n

In the meantime, we are thankful we didn\u2019t have to haul water from a hand pump as we do when camping, our power is still on and our snow will be long gone before the hot water heater’s part arrives.\u00a0 I mean, imagine our adventure in this guy’s neighborhood.\u00a0 (See more of his Central Park friends at the Westside Independent blog<\/a>.\u00a0 So creative.)<\/p>\n
