Been making Chex Party Mix since the 60’s. \u00a0Back then it was made in the oven (microwaves hadn’t been invented yet!). \u00a0It is faster in a microwave, and the finished product is okay, but occasionally I’ll go back to my in-the-oven version. \u00a0Also, I’ve been know to toss in some dried fruit or chocolate chips. \u00a0This delicious collection of good stuff has been a staple snack in our family whether camping or watching television or enjoying time with friends.<\/p>\n
Here’s a suggestion: Divide a batch between zip-lock plastic bags (one for each member of your family) and let them customize their Mix according to their tastes.<\/p>\n
Today you can buy bags of Chex Party Mix in several variation in stores and at gas stations but I still prefer mine.<\/p>\n
If you are introducing your child to cooking, you might want to start out with the microwave version of this recipe and use a large ladle, rather than pour, to scoop out the Mix to cool.<\/em><\/p>\n Original Chex Party Mix<\/strong> ALTERNATIVE COOKING METHOD: \u00a0If using the oven, preheat oven to 250 degree. \u00a0Mix as above. \u00a0Pour onto a rimmed cookie sheet and spread out so its one layer. \u00a0Pop into preheated oven and bake one hour, stirring every 15 minutes. \u00a0Let cool on paper towels or large brown grocery bag.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n
\n9 cups \u00a0of Chex cereal – 3 cups each of Chex Corn, Rice & Wheat cereal
\n1 cup mixed nuts (I use unsalted almonds or peanuts)
\n1 cup bite-size pretzels
\n6 Tbsp butter or margarine
\n2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
\n1 \u00bd tsp seasoned salt
\n3\/4 tsp garlic powder
\n\u00bd tsp onion powder
\nIn large glass bowl, mix cereals, nuts and pretzels; set aside. In small microwave bowl, melt margarine. Stir in seasonings and pour over cereal mixture. Toss to evenly coat. Microwave uncovered 5 to 6 minutes, stirring every 2 minutes. Spread on paper towel to cool. Store in airtight container.<\/p>\n<\/div>
