It maybe deep into January, but our thoughts wander to preparations for this year’s national forest\/camping adventures.\u00a0 Two things I like to do around this time is double check my first aid box<\/a> and see if anything is missing in my “Essentials” drawer.\u00a0 What’s an “Essentials” drawer?\u00a0 Well, everyone has a \u201cJunk Draw\u201d in their homes but when you go camping, it isn\u2019t junk but an essentials. And my “Essentials” drawer is where I find what I need when I need it. We have designated a shallow drawer under the refrigerator as our \u201cEssentials\u201d drawer but, I think, an old shirt box under the passenger\u2019s seat would work, too.<\/p>\n

While you will want to tailor your \u201cEssentials\u201d drawer to your needs, this is what we have found needed for quick fixes when on the road camping:<\/p>\n

\n2. Assorted rubber bands
\n3. Duct Tape
\n4. Krazy Glue
\n5. Twine or String
\n6. Level
\n7. Sewing Kit
\n8. Multihead Screwdriver
\n9. Scissors
\n10. Tape Measure
\n11. Utility Knife
\n12. Flashlight
\n13. Vaseline Petroleum Jelly
\n14. Candle Stubs
\n15. Glo Stick – for emergency
\n16. Lightbulbs<\/p>\n

We keep our extra batteries in a closet in the “bedroom” where it is a bit cooler. Extra fuses are in Fred\u2019s toolbox along with our hammer, screws, nails, etc. During the season Fred will toss other stuff into our \u201cEssentials\u201d draw but the above list is what we start with.<\/p>\n
