A surprise June blizzard means using our winter camping knowledge<\/p><\/div>\n

Cold weather camping requires an RV have a dependable and adequate source of heat, reliable batteries with enough amperage for your needs and a way to charge them, full propane tanks, plenty of warm clothes, extra food for “just in case” situations, and some way of receiving weather reports.<\/p>\n

Winter is a beautiful time of year.\u00a0 Some of the features of camping in cold weather are no bugs, no crowds, incredible quiet, and a tranquil atmosphere.\u00a0 But cold weather camping is more labor intensive. \u00a0It is also a wonderful experience, when one is properly prepared. \u00a0Here are some hints we were given and found useful:<\/p>\n

– \u00a0Remember that batteries become more difficult to recharge as the temperature drops<\/p>\n

– \u00a0Keep antifreeze in holding tanks so drains won’t freeze.<\/p>\n

– \u00a0Crack a windown when heating the RV with any type of propane or solid fuel heater<\/p>\n

– \u00a0Keep lower cabinet doors ajar so water lines will not freeze.<\/p>\n

– \u00a0A hair blow dryer can be useful for thawing frozen drains and iced over doors. \u00a0A can of de-icer is an alternative.<\/p>\n

– \u00a0Each night disconnect sewer and water hoses. \u00a0Bring the water hose into the RV to prevent freezing (we stow ours in the shower stall).<\/p>\n
