Even here in southeast Arizona snow brings out sleds and sledding safety is a concern.\u00a0 Pictures of families sledding and skiing\u00a0 bring smiles and we hope nothing happens to remove those great memories.\u00a0 Here are a few tips we hope you remember to keeps everyone safe.<\/p>\n

Partner up when sledding<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Young children should not ride a sled alone.\u00a0 The younger children are likely to fall off and main not know how to stop safely.<\/p>\n

Wear a helmet when sledding<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Head injuries are most common sledding injury.\u00a0 The reasons to wear a helmet when sledding are the same as when riding a bicycle.<\/p>\n

Forget s<\/strong>now tubes<\/strong><\/h2>\n

No matter the age, sledders using snow tubes have been found such tubes cause the most serious head injuries of all the sledding toys.<\/p>\n

Find a Safe Spot<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Look for and use a slope with a large stopping area and free of trees, fences, utility polls, jumps and bumps.\u00a0 And never use a slope that crosses a road.<\/p>\n

Get out of the Way<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Once the run is done, get off the slope quickly to avoid any collisions.<\/p>\n

Take Turns when sledding<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Take turns with others on the slope so everyone isn\u2019t flying down the hill at the same time.<\/p>\n

FYI: According researcher Lara Mckenzie, Ph.D. of Nationwide Children\u2019s Hospital, Columbus, OH, some 20,000 children were treated in ERs last year for some type of sledding injury.\u00a0 The head is the most commonly injured body part.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n
