If the geologists are correct and Rabbit Ears is the result of a massive volcanic event some seven million years ago (that is 7,000,000 years ago!), imagine what it must have looked liked before that event. Even from the Byway, the 300 foot twin spires look massive. In the heart of the Menagerie Wilderness, Rabbit Ears is a destination for many rock climbing enthusiasts. One web site for climbers says Rabbit Ears ". . . offer some of the most satisfying climbs in Oregon on free standing pillars that are only rivaled by the desert towers of Utah." Incredible beauty, unique sights, and exciting challenges are found all along the Rogue-Umpqua Scenic Byway.
