My wife and I will be camping in the Allegheny NF in late June in a small camper. Can anyone recommend a nice campground preferrably with electric hookups and hot showers? This will be our first trip to the area; any recommendations of things to see and do?

There are five CGs in the Allegheny with electric hookups and showers, one of which has full hookups. Click on the "National Forest & Campgrounds" tab to the left, then select the Allegheny. Suggest you read through the descriptions afterwhich I'm betting you'll find one meeting your criteria. Other then what's in the CG descriptions, maybe someone else has some specific suggestions on things to do . . . Fred

I would go back to Twin Lakes campground in a heart beat. The stroll around the lake (the "twin lake" was never built) was a delight. If you go please check to see if the bobber stealing beaver is still messing with the fishing folks. That might have been the highlight of our stroll.

I dont' remember if it is privately owned or even still in existant. When i lived in Pennsylvania in the 1980's, near kinzu dam, there was this nice campground in allegheny named "DEW DROP". It is one of the first places i saw bears, deer, etc. Much wildlife was there. I recommend it if it still exists. Also, not far from there is Kinzu Dam beach, a public beach for people to swin in the kinzu resovior. BTW, my grandpa helped make the Kinzu dam by planting flowers and trees around it and horticulture work.

Yes, the CG is still there (Dewdrop). I believe we caught most of what you said in our description of the campground - see http://www.forestcamping.com/dow/eastern/all.htm.
