Hi everyone. I'm embarking on a cross-country trip with my dog and looking to do some backpacking. Since I'm not limited by state, this question goes out to all of you:
Where have you gone backpacking that allows dogs, and is a good, multi-day hike for people as well?
Thanks!!
Brenda
PS. If you know anywhere near the San Francisco Bay Area, that's my home base. |

The majority of national forests permit dogs, usually, provided they are leashed and under control. National parks, on the other hand, do not permit dogs on trails. See http://www.forestcamping.com/dow/list/nflist.htm for national forest locations . . . Fred _________________ Co-author of the U.S. National Forest Campground Guides |

If you drift down to New Mexico, hit Carson National Forest. There is some great trails in the area along with the scenery. I have also heard that Gila national forest is good too, although I have not backpacked there. If you are up near Yellowstone, try Gallatin NF. _________________ Tom
