Anyone have information on fly fishing opportunities in NF in New Mexico? We would like to spend the month of August in our 29 foot motor home somewhere in the mountains where it is cool/not hot. If not New Mexico, then possibly Colorado or somewhere not too far from Arkansas so as to save fuel costs. Thanks.

Suggest you go to http://www.fs.fed.us/fishing/regionalmap/index.html where you'll find information on fishing in national forests. Although I am not an angler, I believe you'll find the information quite extensive. If you decide to go fishing in New Mexico or Colorado, check out our website at http://www.forestcamping.com for associated camping opportunities.

My buddys and I camp around a fly fishing agenda. Two years ago we camped in the Valle Vidal administrative unit within the Carson NF in Northern New Mexico. We fished the Rio Costillo. It is a small but terrific fishery for Cutts. Flows mostly through meadows and is shallow, so fishing is easy (tho catching is challenging!).
The road in is tough and in poor condition over the last 15 or so miles. Having said that, an RV can do it easily if you just go slow and have good tires (thinking of protection from sidewall cuts and gravel drilling, not traction as such).
Scenery is beyond beautiful, altitude about 9,000'; campground is hosted. Gets lots of elk hunters after Labor Day They are good guys to camp with;they leave early and come back late and are usually so tired they crash early. We camped in the Cimmaron Campground, I think.
Only real downside to fishing there is it is a fairly rough, slow drive from campground to stream fishing. If you bellyboat fish, there is a heavily stocked lake within minutes, however.
Check the Carson forest website; it will have info about the Valle Vidal on it.
