Parker Canyon Lake is situated between Nogales and Coronado National Monument. If you take AZ 82 to the town of Sonoita, AZ 83 continues south of town. Follow Fred and Suzi's directions to the campground. In 1997, I followed a school bus down this pot hole filled, broken pavement road. And, that was before the pavement ended. Then it became your typical washboard road.
There are many, very beautiful walkin campsites here. I think there is a separate RV area. There is a beautiful, very straight foreward trail around the lake. On the east side of the lake is a marina; a boat launch ramp, and a store. The trail has a few ups and downs to the dam. About the same from the dam, to the north end of the lake. On the east side of the lake, and north of the campground, are some steeper climbs along the trail. Here is a very nice vew of the lake. Difficult to get lost here. I doubt you'd need a map. Just take water and a snack because it's around a 5-mile hike.
I woke up one night to hear the sounds of javelinas, a few yards from my tent. Other than many flies, that was the extent of my wildlife encounters. _________________ Kevin |
