Does anyone know the status of the hidden cameras found in the forest in 2010? Is a nice secluded weekend of camping now a thing of the past?

There are so many acres of vacant land that the odds of being somewhere where their are cameras in the backcountry has to be slim.

Enjoy the woods! You'll go paranoid if you try to figure out all of the spots that a camera could be.

Well, bjack11, apparently none of us have experienced cameras in the Francis Marion. Perhaps you should push this further with the Forest Service to get a more definitive answer. Since I guess you are a member of the press, that should be possible. We'll all be interested in your continuing investigation.

Nope, not a member of the press. Just a guy that wants to camp out without being monitored by....whoever is putting up cameras.

Guess what!?!!? I came across a camera while hiking in the Gallatin NF. It wasn't exactly hidden but there it was next to a less used trail. Very interesting.

Having just come from two months hosting at the Wambaw Cycle trailhead I heard nothing about cameras. I have seen cameras in various state forests that were used for tracking animal usage. They also do a lot of hunting with dogs and some dogs do get left in the woods at Francis Marion.

Probably the best thing to do is not worry about them. As long as you are law-abiding there's no use in ruining a good trip with worry. Go and enjoy.
