Some tent campers find it objectionable to be in the same [developed] campground with RVrs. Is it the generators? Is it the sheer bigness of the RVs? Well, whatever, tent campers should take some delight in knowing our research determined there are 134 national forest developed campgrounds where by design or otherwise, RV occupancy is not feasible or permitted.

Two examples are:

Reef Townsite campground - Coronado National Forest (Arizona)

Mary Smith campground - Trinity National Forest (California)

Sorry, no national forests in the lower part of Michigan. Check out our website upper left for other possibilities in central Michigan, e.g. Manistee NF.

Most of the Forest Service campgrounds in the northwestern United States are a little cold and wet this month of February. We do most of our camping from May thru October.

Most of them are closed, gated off, from Labor Day through Memorial Day. If you want to camp, at least in Oregon, during the off-season, you're pretty much confined to the state parks along the beaches. Phooey.

Any in Oregon/Washington State?

I enjoy both RVing and Tent Camping but for some reason I agree that I don't wanna be around RVs when I'm tent camping.

Its just personal preference I think. Its not like I have a problem with RVers; if if I set up camp and an RV pulls up I have no problem with that. But if I'm in the mood for tent camping, I'm going to wanna set up somewhere far and remote where RVs can't get to in the first place
:D

Likewise! Its normally swampy until late may early june, until then good luck getting a tent to sit on the ground and not float away!

Hi there, I'm new to the site and I'm a Canadian that frequents the US as often as I can. I have recently started camping on my motorcycle. I don't mind RV's but prefer the solitude of tent camping. I was wondering if you could recommend any campgrounds in Allegheny National Forest in Pennsylvania. I've read that Twin Lakes is good. I am looking for a beach if possible or maybe shower facilities. Also, we will be travelling down to Virginia if anyone can recommend any campgrounds along the mountains.
Thank you for your input!
:)

When I am camping, I prefer to be in as natural a campsite setting as possible. Having RV's around make's it feel as natural as camping in a parking lot. A lot of RV campers have generators going to run AC and other amenities. The noise generated intrudes on the ambience of the campground.
