Looking to tent camp in Idaho, in view of the Tetons for a few days. Then move onto the Wyoming side, down by the Wind River range. Prefer quiet areas with secluded campsites. Roads do not have to be paved or in fact, in decent condition. Vehicle can handle just about anything. Will only be myself and my very large Malamute.
Open to any suggestions….

Teton Canyon in the Targhee National Forest, just outside of Driggs Idaho is one of the best in the system. Hike into the Tetons right from the campground. You won't have a view of the Tetons from the campground but the view is spectacular and you will see the Tetons on the way in.

What about the Targhee NF's campgrounds north of Island Park, ID? Can't recall if they had views of the Tetons but they are simply super. But for amazing views, I would put Green River Lake campground in the Bridger NF near Pinedale, WY. at the very top of that list.

Now, to complain a bit. The problem with the NFS sites are it is next to impossible to figure out, without using mapquest, where campsites are located. Each NF needs an overall map to show the locations of all their campsites, other than dispersed sites. Whether or not this will happen is another thread.

Also, on the reservation site is there a way to determine if the site will have a campground host?

Any grizzly bears roaming that area? I'll be in a tent and prefer not to run into a grizzly.

f5fstop ...The National Forest maps published by NFS/USDA show very detailed information as to location of campgrounds as well as number of campsites, elevation, no. of sites, water supply etc. I cannot see on any of them that they mention hosts.There are probably many places where you can get the maps, but the local Ranger Stations usually carry only the maps for that particular Forest.

Why don't the put them online like BLM or NPS? Heck, even most states put their state park campsites online.

Green River Lakes CG is on our short list for this summer along with Pinnacles across the mountains. I've read that the road to Green River Lakes is pretty bad; any comments? Also, is there much of a risk of either CG being full on late June-July weekdays? I'd hate to drive that long, bumpy road to find it full.

Have reservations set up at Teton Canyon CG in Wyoming from July 1 through the weekend. I do have a question. On the campgrouind listing, there are some campsite that are not listed, but are shown on the maps, and when hovering the mouse over their map designation it states: management. What is the difference between a standard and a management campsite. Especially since this particular campground has quite a few management sites.
