Would like to know if it is okay to pan for gold in the Ontonagon River in Ottawa National Forest.

Don't know for sure but generally, if it is for recreational purposes, it is okay. However, you might need a permit - mainly so the Forest Service knows were you are panning and to insure you don't wander onto someone's claim. Please, check with the forest for exact rules and restrictions.

If you're just wondering around on a river panning for gold on PUBLIC land then no issues, however if you come across a ploted area or an area that is marked then shy away from there.
