How many of you visited a National Forest this year? If you camped, used a trail or simply drove thru on on the way to another one, that counts!

What was the name(s) of the one(s) you visited and what did you think of it?

We were at Nicolet NF in Wisconsin where my son and I did some fishing before he entered the Air Force this summer and earlier this year, my wife and I made a day visit to DeSoto in Southern Mississippi, where we did a little Geocaching / hiking.

Nicolet NF is one of our favorite places due to the many lakes in the area and the excellent camping opportunities.

DeSoto was found when we just needed to get out for the day last Spring. We saw one campground - Big Biloxi - which was just beautiful.

OK, now its your turn - which ones did you visit or are planning to visit later this year?

Due to returning to work, & having to stay closer to home,we've only been able to do several places in George Washington NF.
It's still nice to get out, if only for 3 or 4 days at a time, got one more 4 day trip coming up in 2 weeks, unfortuneatly, that will be the last one of the year.

We've spent most of our summer in national grasslands where dispersed camping is the rule. Very different and lovely. However, we did stay in Toadstool Park cg in Oglala NG and Crow Valley cg in Pawnee and they were great. Birding and geology were outstanding. Anyway, we were surprised by how many fellow campers we had at each. All were just getting away for a few days. Guess that's a very popular thing. As my former mother-in-law would have said, "They are just looking for a change of wallpaper." Hope you all got to enjoy a "change of wallpaper."

I managed to spend 78 nights dry-camping in the Nicolet, Chequamegon and Ottawa Natl Forests this past seasons.
The Chequamegon is the furthest away but is still only 250 miles.
Each campground has its own unique features and personality and we have certain campgrounds for certain seasons.
My partner who is a storyteller/musician/author went on a performing roadtrip last summer out to the Western states. She stayed at NFS CGs in Mn, ND, SD, WY, MT, UT, CA and OR. Some were better that others and some were simply spectacular, like Cape Perpetua.

We love 'em!

Quite a summer, I'd say, ATTIS. Perhaps you have some pictures you can share with us in the photography forum. Did you tent camp or dry camp in an RV?

Spent three months on the road this summer. Started in the Rio Grande NF (CO) at Elk Creek near Antonito and finished at Bristol Head above Creede. Also spent time at Cayton near Rico in the San Juan NF. Finished the summer in Dixie NF (UT) Singletree CG near Capitol Reef NP. From there to Red Canyon, near Bryce Canyon. Finished up in DeMotte CG in the Kaibob NF, near the north rim of the grand canyon.

All are rather rustic and high enough to be cool in the summer, which is our preference.
