I am new to Boise, Idaho and my wife and I want to get out and car camp this summer. Fishing is a necessity but I do want to feel as secluded as possible for car camping. I've been looking at all the campgrounds that you've listed in the sw region of idaho and I just don't know how to choose especially since I've never been to any of the regions NE of Boise. Are there any lake/creek campgrounds with good privacy in a good confer forest with good underbrush and privacy that you'd recommend? I'd drive up to 5 hours for a site like this.

First of all, Boise is a great place from which to access NF campgrounds. In fact, we're like you - it's tough to make a selection, but here goes.

1. Sawtooth National Recreation Area (Sawtooth NF)- there are a thousand lakes in this area; start with the Stanley Lake CG on Stanley Lake.

2. Boise NF - Elks Flat CG or Bonneville CG; both have fishing and natural hot springs.

3. Payette NF - Hazard Lake and Grouse Lake CGs.

There are sooooo many more. We suggest you check out the above CGs and explore out from there. Look at our pictures which might help the decision process. Make it a project.
