Summary of leasons learned

We have started our 19th year as part-time full-time RVers.  We always look forward to hitting the road.  Every year we have so many great adventures, see so many sights, and meet tons of amazing people.  Each year is another learning experience.  I’l like to share with you the following are a summary of leasons learned.

  • There is no hurry, be flexible.
  • Don’t believe Interstates – gas, shopping etc. might be miles off the Interstate.
  • Stay off Interstate as much as possible – you’ll see more of America.
  • GPS Units can be wrong at worst and unreliable at best.
  • Take less clothing and wash more.
  • Overnight in rest areas when possible.
  • Avoid commercial strips when overnighting.
  • Invest in good campchairs.
  • Follow the 230 rule – drive 230 miles max per day or be in camp by 2:30PM.
  • Make the bed – feels like you have more room.
  • Eat out often – local restaurants give you a feel of the place. My preference is to eat lunch out and make a “lite” dinner.
  • Campground WiFi is slow, when it works.
  • Don’t make impulsive purchases.  Your space is limited so if you must have that thing, consider mailing it home.
  • Everything in moderation.
  • Take inventory and make labels – a good thing.
  • Keep important travel reference material (maps, guides, etc) close at hand
  • Know your rig’s physical dimensions. Such knowledge could save you from a horrible acident.
  • Traveling with someone, respect each other’s space.
  • Non-breakable glass and tableware is safest.
  • A multi-tool is a g-d sent device.
  • Space is critical in an RV. If you buy something, whether t-shirt, pot, whatever, toss something.
