Spring Blossoms at Tortilla Campground

Just east of Apache Junction and Phoenix, Arizona, is a natural desert oasis known as Tortilla Flats. When the winter brings ample rain, Tortilla Flats is covered with splashes of color. The winter of 2004-2005 did not have an abundance of moisture but there was enough to give Tortilla Flats and its campground, named Tortilla, some small patches of colors. These are some of the blossoms we enjoyed during our stay at Tortilla campground. This terraced campground is unique in the Forest Service for it has the only combination water and sewer hook-ups we know of in the nation and it is closed during the summer months.
