Our next stop was Greenbank Farm. Established in early 1900 as a dairy farm, the Greenbank Farm became the largest loganberry farm in the United States. When, in 1995 plans surfaced to turn Greenbank Farm into a 700-home development, local residents rallied to save the Farm. Now a not-for-profit entity, the 522-acre Greenbank Farm is an oasis of fields, forest, and wetlands. Greenbank Farm also boasts a thriving retail area for local artists, cheese and specialty food store, a wine shop, including its signature private label loganberry wine, and more. A pleasant stop on our tour of Whidbey Island, but it was time to head back to Fidalgo Island. Darn, the whole south end of the Island left unexplored. Next time we'll plan for a longer stay.
