If you are going to have a campfire, you'll bring old newspapers anyway so bring extra. Let the children pull out an eight, ten, or twelve full, double-wide sheets of newspaper. Fold each sheet in half once, twice, three, and four times. Additional folds can be made and would add to the mat's padding but aren't necessary.
