06titus_cyn_4.jpg It is hard to believe Death Valley of today has a very diverse ecosystem from this picture. Look closely and you'll see the road we traveled. Also, just barely noticeable, are bands of different colored soil where the dark reddish rock cover the mountain tops. This dark colored rock might be from volcanic activity while the light colored bands could be marine sediment or perhaps volcanic ash. Death Valley is a very interesting study in geology.
